1. Labor Day

2. Join Us for a Campaign Work Night on September 10

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today is the traditional "last day of summer," and a time we contemplate the blessings our nation enjoys as a consequence of the diligent labor of it's citizens.

What are the public policies that give us good jobs for the citizens of Colorado? Have we been following those best practices in the past few years?

During this election season I have talked with hundreds of people and I am hearing many concerns. If I had to put all of these concerns into one category I would have to say it is jobs. There are not enough good jobs to go around. The only jobs the government seems to be able to create are taxpayer funded government jobs. The lack of meaningful enforcement of immigration laws drives unemployment higher. Excessive government spending is making it more difficult for a recovery that will create good, private sector jobs. Higher taxes and stiffer regulations are driving businesses, and jobs, out of the state.

I have included a chart of the change in Colorado jobs since January 2008.

If we had saved for the tough times with a rainy day fund, (something I have been urging since 2003), sustaining government sector jobs during a downturn might make some sense. But as it is, we are borrowing from tomorrow to simply prop up today, and it isn't working. We have been taking money from designated cash funds, borrowing from the Federal Government (despite a constitutional ban on borrowing without voter approval), increasing taxes (again, without the people's vote) and increasing fees at alarming rates.

The government cannot spend us into prosperity. Our government should be doing all it can to encourage the private sector to thrive. This means lower taxes and fees, more consistent and reasonable regulations, immigration policies that work, and strict limits on government spending. Such a bold direction in policy would put Colorado back to work. It would restore the confidence we need to once again enjoy a prosperous, producing economy.

On this Labor Day the policies of our government are making it harder for the average, working citizen.

I am, however, quite hopeful that the people will send to Denver next January a team determined to stop growing an out of control government and start growing a strong economy for all of Colorado's citizens.

2. Join us for dinner and help preparing a few hundred yard signs on Friday, September 10 from 4-8 pm. Come and enjoy an evening with Senator Lundberg and other campaign volunteers.

This work night will be at Kevin's home, just west of Berthoud:

2525 West County Road 8

2. Every Monday morning I host the Larimer County Republican Breakfast Club, now meeting at the Best Western Hotel in Loveland (I-25 and US 34.) Last week a picture of the club was featured one the front page of the New York Times. I jokingly told the club this week that we had arrived and are now the political epicenter of the country. You can view the picture and story at: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/05/us/politics/05colorado.html.

3. Congratulations to all of the candidates who were elected to stand for office in the general election this fall. It was a bruising primary for many, but now is the time to recognize the significant choices before us all in November.

If we elect another Democrat majority, their collectivist ideals for government will continue to erode our liberties and push our economy into an even deeper economic malaise. Spending and taxes are way out of control. The Republican team is ready and able to tackle these problems and work at putting our state and nation back on a firm foundation, but only if we elect them to office.

Please, do not hold back, or just stay home, if your favorite candidate did not win the primary. The stakes are too high and the job is too big. Limited, constitutional government is essential for a robust economy today and a legacy of liberty for future generations. Your role today as an actively engaged citizen is an essential part of these future freedoms.

For life and for liberty, join me in doing all we can to elect the Republican team at all levels of government in November.

July 21, 2010

Most Republicans in Colorado have already received their primary ballot in the mail.

It is often difficult taking sides in a primary, as both Republicans might be good possibilities. None-the-less, we should not just settle for good, we should look for the very best.

Here are my recommendations of who I consider the very best in some of the contested races.

Statewide:

Governor - Dan Maes

U.S. Senate - Ken Buck

Treasurer - JJ Ament

Larimer County:

Sheriff - Carl Brunning

I have carefully looked at and worked with Dan Maes and I believe he is the the best man running for governor. He is hard working and smart. His principles are the most conservative and well defined. The negative reports that have been leveled against him are political slams that do not warrant the attention they have been getting. I believe I can work well with Dan as our governor for the next several years.

Both Ken Buck, and his opponent, Jane Norton are good Republicans. I like Jane, and her husband Mike and have a high respect for their public service to the people of Colorado. So too, I have a high respect for Ken Buck, and his wife Perry. The difference is twofold: I am disappointed in Jane's negative attack ads against Ken Buck - that has no place in a Republican primary race. Also, I am more confident that Ken Buck will have the backbone to withstand all of the pressures he will encounter in the U.S. Senate. In my opinion, he will more effectively represent our conservative, Colorado values.

JJ Ament is, despite his opponent's claims to the contrary, an experienced financial planner and the most conservative in the race.

In Larimer county the only real contest on the Republican side is for Sheriff. I appreciate Carl Brunning's emphasis on constitutional principles and am confident that his training as an air force officer prepares him well for this leadership role.

Looking beyond the primary election, I am passing along an opportunity to get out much needed information through churches during this year's election season. Greg Burt sent me the following information:

The Faith & Freedom Coalition of Colorado is helping conservative churches around the state to hold voter registration drives for their congregations. Church-going conservatives need to turn out to vote in large numbers this November if we are going to elect candidates who will stand up for the unborn, the sanctity of marriage, school choice, parental rights, and smaller government. Voter registration drives will help with this effort.

If you are interested in participating or want to get your church involved, please contact Greg Burt right away. His contact information is below. The Faith & Freedom Coalition will provide all the training and materials needed. Thanks.

All across the country, tens of thousands of people gathered to protest the massive growth of government under the Obama administration. Americans from coast to coast have had enough of the federal government's massive expansion, a takeover of our healthcare system, $2 trillion of new debt and politicians who just don't care about the will of the people or the clear language of the U.S. Constitution. If you're like most Americans, you're asking yourself what to do next.

Colorado Faith and Freedom Coalition's Grassroots Activist School provides a practical answer to this question and gives you the tools to "Change the Change!"
On June 26th, we'll be conducting a CFFC Grassroots Activist School in Loveland/Fort Collins , Colorado. We're partnering with Leadership Institute, the premier conservative grassroots training organization in the country, to prepare you to transform Coloradopolitics with the skills needed to successfully combat the tactics of The Left.

3. Last week, on Monday, May 24, I sent a letter to Senators Udall and Bennet, urging them to resist yet another bailout. Here is the body of the press release the Senate Republican office sent out:

DENVERState Sen. Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud, today called on U.S. Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet to oppose an additional $23 billion in bailout money for state governments.
"It's time to stop spending money we don't have," Lundberg said. "It's time to make hard decisions and engage in real reform that yields better results with the resources that we have."
U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, announced last week that he would attach legislation to a military spending bill creating a $23 billion state stabilization account modeled after a component of last year's stimulus package. The fund would provide money to states for education, helping prop up state budgets for another year.
Sen. Lundberg sent a letter to Udall and Bennet opposing the state bailout fund. In the letter, Lundberg voiced his opposition to having Colorado taxpayers subsidize states like California and New York.
"This $23 billion fund will only encourage states to make more reckless budget decisions, knowing that Congress will keep bailing them out when times get tough," Lundberg said. "Showering states with money like it's fairy dust will not fix a weak economy."
Lundberg also expressed concern about growing federal debt and the burden being pushed onto future generations.
"Democrats are borrowing money from our children and grandchildren to pay for things today that we cannot afford," Lundberg said in the letter.
"Congress has already spent trillions on stimulus and bailouts," Lundberg added. "When will this out-of-control spending end?"
